Grand Cayman: The Westin

If you follow me on Instagram, then you saw my recent vacation to Grand Cayman, and probably wanted to slap me haha. I know there’s nothing worse than being at home or at work and you scroll through your feed and see me sipping a pina colada on the beach! Sorry but not sorry 😉 We had the most incredible time and that was pretty apparent in my photos. Grand Cayman took our breathe away and we couldn’t have picked a better place to stay, than the Westin Grand Cayman. I will be going through our trip in different posts and today is all about where we stayed. Grab your cup of coffee and get comfy, because this is a long one!

Side note: As I’m writing this, I’m listening to a song that was on Westin’s playlist and it’s perfect for the feel of this trip. We arrived at the resort and sat outside while waiting for our room, got a drink, and soaked in the beach air while listening to this tune. So go look up Cuban Swing by Will Magid and come back here to read while it’s playing in the background 🙂

We are SPG members, so we try to stay at Westin Hotels pretty much anywhere we travel. We know exactly what to expect from them. They always deliver in every area. Scenery, activities, food/drink, service, accommodations, quality, and Grand Cayman lived up to all of that. We went back and forth on where to go for several months. We debated on going back to St. Thomas, where we had our honeymoon, and loved it, but we ultimately wanted to experience something new. Most of the time what happens, is we look at anywhere there’s a Westin around the world, and decide on where to go based on our SPG points. Grand Cayman had our dates available for points and we booked! This was our first time visiting there, so we didn’t quite know what to expect, especially because we read reviews about the resort undergoing an extensive renovation at the time. I read a ton of Trip Advisor reviews and it mostly said the only thing left to renovate was the rooms and everything else was finished, so we decided to take the chance.

Needless to say, they did a great job renovating! When you walk in the resort, your eyes go straight to the beautiful blue water and this picture perfect spot right between these palm trees. Everywhere you look is better than the last and there are so many cute and quaint little areas to sit in.

Can you handle the cuteness of these baby loungers?!! It almost made me want my girls there… almost.

We are legit buying some of these chairs for our new house. It was our favorite place to sit and drink our coffee in the morning.

We had a room on the top floor that had the most serene view overlooking the ocean.  We didn’t have a renovated room but it was no big deal since none were available yet (but we did get a peak and the new rooms look stunning).  Half of the rooms at the resort were closed off for renovation.  After a couple of nights, we did start to smell paint from the renovations, so we called Maggie at the front desk (who was a dear to us from the moment we arrived at the resort) and she moved us right away to the first floor. Our room had a patio next to the pool area and still had an ocean view. The next morning we had a bottle of champagne and cheese at our door. They were very accommodating and made sure we were taken care of.  We will definitely be back!

Not a bad view, huh?!

Wine and dessert was waiting for us upon check in 🙂

We didn’t have much on our agenda for this trip. Pretty much relax, eat and drink. With all of life stresses we’ve had lately, a trip with nothing but relaxing, is just what we needed. We did 2 excursions and the rest was spent in a beach lounger looking at the ocean. My kinda day 🙂 We pretty much ate light with the exception of one night. We ate dinner at the fine dining restaurant on the grounds, and let me tell you, it was AMAZING. It is called Beach House.

We pretty much had the whole restaurant to ourselves, and had the best server, Damian. He made our experience so enjoyable. We also got to meet Chef Alfredo and even had a dessert made especially for us.. night made! I got the surf and turf and JW got a seafood pasta. The presentation of the food was so beautiful! We started out with a farm fresh salad, that was as good as it sounds and then shared a crab cake as an appetizer. I could’ve stopped there and been happy as a clam, but out came out main dishes, and let me say, WOW, is the only word to describe them! The presentation and taste were outta this world! You MUST make a reservation there when you visit.

Pina colada’s are mandatory, of course 😉 Most of our food budget may have gone to them lol.

A few recommendations: Plan to spend quite a bit on food and drink, everything really. The resort is expensive, as is the whole island. Drinks range from 12-20$ and food can add up quickly too. You can use American dollars everywhere but add 25% to everything you spend with the conversion from Cayman dollars. We knew it was expensive, so luckily we didn’t have sticker shock. We took a cab into George Town one day and it’s about 20$ one way, so that can add up if you leave the resort a lot. We only left the resort once in a cab, and walked a few other times. I do want to explore the island more next time we visit. You may consider going in the off season. The resort was not very crowded and it may even be cheaper.

I would also recommend taking a sail boat out one day. It’s a great way to see the island, and what’s better than being on a boat in the Caribbean?! We took a day sail with Red Sail and it left right at the Westin beach, so it was super convenient. We set up the trip in the lobby with a representative with the company. The hotel also has a spa, which looked very nice, but we didn’t partake in that this trip. We had plans to get a couples massage, but all the days got away from us and before we knew it, it was time to go home. That will be top of my list next time!

Lastly seems so obvious, but enjoy a sunset on the beach. They are too beautiful to miss.

All in all, it was a wonderful stay and we left feeling completely satisfied, per usual. Please let me know if you have any questions! I will be posting all my vacay looks next week 🙂

Thanks for reading!

XO,

Mary ♥
